Hitchin begin 2006 with a home game against Herts rivals Cheshunt at Top Field on January 2 (3pm). The fixture gives the Canaries the chance of a first “double” of the season, as earlier in the campaign, they won 2-1 at Cheshunt.
Hitchin have dropped to 14th in the table, but Cheshunt are just one off the bottom.Since Hitchin’s win on October 25, Cheshunt have failed to win in seven league games, but they have picked up points at Tiverton and Bedford. The Canaries’ form has also been patchy and both sides are at the bottom end of the current form table.
Hitchin’s only away win of the season was at Cheshunt, but Tom Loizou’s team are clearly better away from Theobalds Lane than they are in front of their own fans. Three of their four wins this season have been away.
Canaries manager Darren Salton will unveil his three new signings - Gavin Jaggard, Liam Folds and Parys Okai – at home for the first time.
Although Cheshunt have visited Hitchin on numerous occasions in the past, this will be their first for a league game.
