Hitchin Town Football Club is welcoming all ladies to Top Field for its game against Stourport Swifts on Saturday March 13, kick off 3pm.
Free admission will be granted to ladies of all ages in a bid to encourage more women to come to games. This forms part of a wider initiative to nurture a family atmosphere at the club. As well as reaching out to ladies, Hitchin Town is encouraging youngsters and minority groups to attend games at Top Field.
Hitchin Town has relied on the efforts of female helpers and supporters for many years. In fact, some of the club’s stalwarts have included ladies who have contributed “behind the scenes” since the club’s very formation. The club has also ventured into the world of ladies football in the past, although at present there is no team operating at senior ladies level.
Chairman Terry Barratt sees the ladies day initiative as an important element in the club’s wider community activities. “This season we have made significant efforts towards making Top Field a more family-oriented location. We have outlined a zero tolerance attitude to bad language and we want to invite ladies, children, in fact everyone, to be part of the club. We recognise that only by attracting new supporters from all sections of society can we ensure the club is well supported for generations to come.”
So far, the club has had a positive response to the ladies day initiative. Barratt adds: “We have shown we are prepared to welcome fresh ideas at the club – our Supporters Trust has been much admired around non-league football, to the extent that others have tried to copy it. We hope that more clubs will follow our lead in broadening the appeal of non-league football.”
