Mark Ducket has rejoined Hitchin on loan from Brackley Town but paperwork delays mean he cannot appear tonight as the Canaries take on Rothwell Town.
The popular Ducket left Top Field in 2008 to join Corby. A versatile player, he can fill defensive or midfield roles. He broke a leg earlier in the season, but is now regaining full fitness. Hitchin fans can expect to see him at Biggleswade on Saturday.
Ducket’s arrival bolsters Colin Payne’s squad. “We have a lot of fixtures ahead of us and that will put demands on our squad, so getting Mark on board is very good. He’s well liked at the club and a decent player,” said Payne.
Rothwell come to Hitchin on the back of a poor run, but Payne believes they will present a stiff obstacle. “We’ve seen in the last couple of games at home how teams want to stop us playing and are motivated by playing the league leaders, so I don’t expect tonight’s game to be easy. They had a good start to the season and they are tricky going forward.”
Payne was pleased to get the Romulus game out of the way. “Teams that win titles nick games here and there and to some extent that’s what we did against Romulus. It was good to keep a clean sheet and I was knocked out by the crowd of 350-plus. It shows that people are getting behind us which is great.”
