Hitchin under-12s completed a successful first season in the top division of the Royston Crow with this trip to runners-up Baldock.
The team were solid, well organised and played some neat football at times against a hard-working side that won the league last year.
Ultimately, Baldock proved too strong for the young canaries, winning the game late in the second half through an excellent free kick just outside the box.
Baldock pressed most during the game, but Hitchin also had their chances and can feel a little unlucky not to have come away with what would have been a highly commendable pont.
All 14 lads in the Hitchin squad played a significant part in this game, and indeed the season as a whole. They have been proud to represent Hitchin at youth level, gaining a respectable position of seventh despite losing key players and their manager at the turn of the year.
Luke McCabe, Ollie Payne, Alfie Dinsey, Jake Holbrook, Luke Stanton, Simmy Dhillon, Rhys Daignton, Connor Willis, Michael WiIlliams, Liam Sweeney, Lee Caller, Ross Maddox, James Smith and Adam Hallybone should all be proud of their commitment and development over the past season.
Also, thanks from all the parents and HTYFC for the hard work put in throughout the year by coaches Patrick Sweeney, Paddy Stanton and Graham Hare, plus match delegate and all-round organiser Sarah Caller.
Who knows what the future holds for this group of boys next season, but summer is here and it's tournaments next.
Final Score: Baldock Templars 1 Hitchin Town Youth 0
