Letchworth GC Eagles Yellow v Hitchin Town Youth U12

Sunday, May 3 2009

Great win, great goals and great satisfaction for the boys after some fine performances in recent weeks.

Hitchin have achieved comfortable mid-table status in their first season in the Royston Crow Division One.

Despite the turmoil of losing key players, confidence has gradually returned. This win over a team higher in the league demonstrated how a hard-working and talented squad has stuck it out through the season.

All 14 boys were available for the first time in many weeks, and each played their part in a convincing victory.

The game kicked off with Luke McCabe in goal, Ollie Payne left back, Luke Stanton and Alfie Dinsey in the centre, Simmy Dhillon right back, Connor Willis left midfield, Liam Sweeney and Rhys Dainton in the middle and Michael Williams left midfield, with Ross Maddox and Adam Hallybone up front.

Subs Lee Caller, James Smith and Jake Holbrook all contributed significantly to a fine performance.

Yellows started brightly, but were caught by two breaks of the highest quality. Adam found Ross for the opener and then one of the best goals of the season saw James win the ball and pass down the wing for Adam, who skinned his marker to put in a cross headed home powerfully by Ross.

Hitchin had other chances in the first half, including a wonder half-volley from Rhys, which hit the bar and came down on the line.

Action from the game

Early in the second half, Hitchin stretched their lead when a mistake by the Yellows gave Liam the chance to feed Adam, who raced clear to put Hitchin three up. Adam could even have made it four soon after.

Letchworth then nicked one back and probably should have taken at least one of three more decent chances.

But Luke McCabe was having another fine day in goal and the result was never really in doubt.
