A pre match injury sustained in the near by play area meant that Daniel Jordan was unable to play due to problems with his `equipment`. Hope you’re back to full form soon!
Daniel’s absence meant a quick reshuffle in the team by Coach Chris with Juan picking up the defending duties.
The Harriers started brightly and an early run through midfield by Matthew created a great chance for George Rodger whose shot from distance forced a quality save from the keeper as the ball headed straight for the top left corner of the goal. A pass down the wing from Danny to Joe gave Joe the opportunity to have his first strike on goal, but unfortunately he hit the left post. Joe had another opportunity following the goal kick but this time the shot was saved easily by the keeper.
Bassingbourn had a period of possession and managed to break through the Harrier defences; the shot on goal trickled across the goal mouth and bounced off the right post before being cleared by Ryan.
Hitchin continued to apply pressure and some excellent one two passing between George and Joe allowing Joe to have a shot on goal that was stopped by the keeper but Elliot was on hand to slot it home [1-0].
Bassingbourn came fighting back and managed to force a corner that was quickly taken, a Bassingbourn player managed to get a shot in but it was just wide of the right post. The Harriers had a final attacking play before half time with another one two passing move from Matthew and Joe resulting in a fine pass to Elliot who’s resulting shot was saved by the keeper.
The second half started with another period of Harriers possession, a superb pin point through pass from Matthew set up Joe nicely whose shot slid straight past the left of the keeper [2-0]. Joe had another great run down the right wing to get in range of the goal unfortunately his shot this time was just wide of the left post.
Elliot and Joe continued to work well together with some great passing which eventually allowed Joe to produce a sliding shot on goal that was cleared by the Bassingbourn keeper. The Harriers continued to apply pressure and the Bassingbourn defence remained strong. An Elliot cross gave Joe another chance of a shot on goal that was once again cleared. Bassingbourn responded and produced an attack of their own, with only the keeper to beat it took a very brave save from Ryan diving at the striker’s feet to avoid conceding a goal.
As the Harriers continued to keep possession, several corners were conceded by Bassingbourn giving George an opportunity to show off his corner taking skills. One found Joe whose shot was deflected away by the keeper; another found Juan whose header went just over the bar.
As both teams started to get tired it was dynamo Juan who just seemed to get stronger and stronger. A great run through midfield and an accurate pass to Elliot produced a shot that was just wide of the left post. Another accurate pass forward from Juan to Joe allowed Joe another shot on goal which required a diving save by the keeper to avoid the goal.
In the last few minutes of the game Bassingbourn had their last attack on goal, with two players against the Harriers keeper. Ryan bravely blocked a rocket of a shot from one of the Bassingbourn strikers to give the final result of [2-0].
Another outstanding performance from the Harriers, they have definitely improved their passing skills in the last few weeks. They really worked well together and the whole team gave 110%.
