Hitchin Town U11 v Letchworth U11 Blues

Sunday, January 13 2008

An eye-catching display of quality football saw Hitchin outclass their Letchworth opponents from start to finish in blustery conditions, on a giant pitch at St.Johns.

Letchworth came into the game with a good record, having only lost two games all season. Plus, after a draw on the opening day, they are the only side to have taken any points from Barry Alderson's boys all season.

But Hitchin were in the mood to pass the ball, using pace and skill to create chance after chance.
After going close a couple of time, the first goal came when Luke Stanton found himself in an advanced position to fire a dipping shot into the right hand corner of the net.

Great play between Simmy Dhillon and Ollie Payne then set up Kameron for the second, and before half-time Michael Williams fired in an unstoppable half-volley from long range.

Letchworth went about their business gamely and in good spirit. With the wind behind their backs in the second half, the blues also managed a little more possession. But the fourth soon came when Sam Ward followed up a good save from a Christian Farrugia effort.

A mix-up following a substitution saw Hitchin concede poorly after a throw-in, but once the game had regained its shape the attacks kept coming. A good performance from the Letchworth keeper saw a string of saves from Sam, Kameron, man-of-the-match Ollie and Lee Caller.

But just before the final whistle, Hitchin notched a deserved fifth - James Smith poaching well from a Sam cross.
A good performance, which kept Hitchin well clear at the top of the Royston Crow League Division Two - complete with a staggering goal difference of +82.

But a big test looms next week against Division 1 high-fliers Baldock Templars in the cup.

Final score: Hitchin Town U11s 5 Letchworth U11 Blues 1
