The Hawks were also wearing their blue away shirts which seemed to match their skin as a lot of them looked blue with cold.
Within seconds Ali had to make his first save of the day as Fairlands Youth started on the attack. Tyler and Ryan were defending well and bravely blocked crosses again and again before Fairlands Youth took a quick corner which a Fairlands Youth player managed to kick into the box and cause a cruel deflection off a Hitchin player to result in a goal to make it [0 – 1]. After some great defending by George and a good clear by Ben, one of Fairlands Youth’s players picked up the ball and did a long shot which hit the goal post and went into goal [0 – 2]. The last few minutes saw Matthew running down the wing and Zac working well in midfield.
Within seconds of the second half Fairlands Youth scored a goal to make it [0 – 3]. Ed came on to give George a rest and got stuck in straight away to do some lovely defending. A rested George then replaced Zac. Out of nowhere really came Fairlands Youth’s fourth goal [0 – 4]. The Hawks carried on battling hard and won a corner. Tyler kicked the ball well and Ben headed it just a little wide of the goal. It wasn’t long before we saw another goal from Fairlands Youth to make it [0 – 5]. During some midfield play, Ben ran into one of their players and got injured so Zac came on to replace him. The final few minutes of play saw the final goal of the day go to Fairlands Youth making the final score [0 – 6].
No one really knew what went wrong today apart from the fact that the Hawks just never really got into the game despite everyone playing well with some great individual play at times.
However, Fairlands Youth did play really well and took all the chances they had. At times it felt like there was a magnetic force in their goal that attracted the ball whenever it got near.
