Hitchin Town Youth U15 v Leighton Utd U15

Sunday, February 24 2008

Hitchin were again drawn at home this weekend against Leighton Utd and after our last meeting we knew we had to be on form. With no assigned referee Leighton Utd offered the services of their level 3 referee, thank you.

Both sides started off quite slowly this week and extremely quiet, but before long Hitchin started showing their strength all over the pitch. With injuries in our defence the normal formation had to be changed but Matt Morley, Josh Cook and Aaran Goldsmith worked extremely hard to deny any attemps at goal.

Midfield of Ross Bates, Danny Blanchard, Gareth Hedges and Kyle Ronald linked up well as usual and made some great through balls to the forwards Bryn Reynolds and Liam Toomey.

After some outstanding passing between Ross and Josh down the left side, Ross battled his way through and smashed the ball into the back of the net. 1-0.

Leighton Utd looked a little lost and found it hard to cope with such outstanding football from the home side and were on the back foot for most of the first half. With just 10 mins before half time Liam brought the ball down and lobbed the keeper to give us a slightly more comfortable half time scoreline. 2-0.

At the start of the second half Hitchin looked more determined and more vocal. A few changes were made which saw Jordan Amstrong, Matt Aherne and Michael Evans enter the field of play.

Jordan was strong in midfield and put some lovely balls through to Michael who in turn made the most of the ball allowing Liam to secure his second goal of the afternoon. 3-0

As the game drew to a close Liam and Bryn, up front, communicated well and Bryn smashed the ball into the back of the net. Final Score 4-0.

On the day Hitchin were the much better side and passed the ball around with ease. Leighton had a few shots on target but were always going to be denied by James Holland who was yet again solid in goal.

Another 3 points, well done to all of you, you did what you needed to do.
