Hitchin Harriers v Austen Arrowheads

Saturday, January 26 2008

The Harriers started the game looking bright and eager, a cross from Tom in the first few minutes found Elliot in the box who clinically placed the shot passed the keeper to make it [1-0].

Joe had a solo run down the right wing and had a shot which was just wide of the right post. Juan also managed to get into a goal scoring position requiring the goalie to make a brave save at Juan’s feet. The forwards started to link up very well with some excellent passing play between Joe, Elliot, Tom and Juan. Elliot had a strong run forward and selflessly passed at the last second to Tom who was in space and slotted it home to make it [2-0].

As the Harriers continued to keep the pressure on there was a goal mouthy scramble allowing Joe to tuck the ball away into the corner of the net [3-0]. The Harriers pushed forward again with Joe supported by Tom and Elliot, Joe tapped the ball past the keeper to make it [4-0]. Next it was Mathews turn to have a go as he ran through the Austen defence to have a rocket shot on goal which was tipped around the post by the keeper.

As the second half got underway the Harriers continued to dominate the midfield, a cross from Joe was picked up by Elliot and slammed past the keeper [5-0]. Mathew managed to force a corner which was quickly taken; a cross from Tom found Joe who flicked the ball on to Elliot who buried the ball in the back of the net to make his hat-trick [6-0].

For all the pressure the Harriers applied it was notable that Austen at no point gave up and they continued to battle on despite the score line. Austen once again pushed forward on the counter attack and a strong shot on goal forced a save from Ali. Another run forward through the Austen defence by Joe saw the ball blasted into top right corner of the goal for his hat-trick [7-0].

The Harriers had another couple of chances in the closing stages of the game with Luke pushing forward forcing a save from the keeper at his feet. Tom had a great shot on target from long range that was saved by the keeper.

It was another excellent performance from the Harriers who looked strong throughout the game.
