Hitchin continued their good start to life in Division One of the Royston Crow League with this hardfought away win over a well organised Sawbridgeworth.
Both teams know each other well after sharing the top two positions in Division Two last season, with the game played in a good spirit between players and parents alike.
As with the games last year, Sawbo pushed Hitchin all the way but just fell short as the game went on. The home team were one nil up at half-time after an excellent free-kick into the top corner by their best player, Luke McCabe in goal getting a hand to it but failing to push it over.
Hitchin still need to improve their attacking play and seem less fluent than last season, despite a tireless performance from man of the match Adam Hallybone. Jake Holbrook was added to the midfield from the start and improved the team's combativeness, whilst captain Jake Alderson had a match-winning performance pushing forward to support the strikers.

Jake Alderson scored the equaliser early in the second half with a free-kick from almost exactly the same spot as Sawbo had scored. Some pressure built from there and a peach of a corner from Ollie Payne was then headed brilliantly into the net for Jake's second goal of the game.
Hitchin worked hard to try and control the game, but Sawbridgeworth pushed eagerly for an equaliser . Their long throw specialist caused plenty of concern in the final minutes but some fine defensive work saw Hitchin hang on for the three points.
Final score: Sawbridgeworth Juniors 1 Hitchin Youth 2
