The match started brilliantly with both sides attacking in numbers leaving their defences some-what exposed. Tom, starting as he meant to go on, made a couple of excellent saves. Against the run of play and with the midfield over-run, Jack took the ball to the opposition’s goal, scoring just before half time 1-0.
Going into the second half 1-0 up, the Tigers were up-beat about their chances, but FC Comets had other ideas! With some excellent play, passing and defending in numbers, the Comets took control of the game. Panic started to spread throughout the team and within a matter of minutes the score was 2-1 to the Comets. Little can be said about the second half performance as the normal fighting spirit of the Tigers seemed to be a miss today, with FC Comets playing the team football, it wasn’t long before it was 1-4.
A wonderful free kick by Chris T before the final whistle made it 2-4.
Bill Nicholson once said "It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low. And we of Hitchin Tigers (I put this bit in!) have set our sights very high, so high in fact that even failure will have in it an echo of glory."
Better luck next time boys!
