Hitchin Town were drawn against St Joeseph's on Friday to play one of 3 catch up games. With it being so late in the season St Joe's agreed to play the remaining games against us over at The Arena, Baldock.
With so much to play both teams needed a win to continue putting pressure for the top spot in the league.
The game started off at a fast pace with both teams playing some great football all over the pitch. The defence of Arron Goldsmith, Josh Millett, Josh Cook and back to full fitness Matt Morley controlled the defence well and denied any of the visitors any attemps on goal.
Jordan Armstrong and Danny Blanchard did well in midfield alongside Kyle Ronald and Josh Corkhill being first to every ball.
Liam Toomey and Bryn Reynolds, as ever, kept on the pressure and when Liam got his chance just outside the box he volleyed the ball into the bottom left hand corner 1-0. Halftime.
With so much history bewtween us, Hitchin knew that St Joe's would come out to start the second half with determination. The first 10 minutes proved fruitful for them when they gained the equaliser. 1-1
A few changes were made which saw Ross Bates and Michael Evans take to the field of play in Midfield. Yet again Michael run rings around the St Joes producing probably the best skills we have seen this year, Hitchin Town started to look a little more dangerous, and we were unlucky to take the lead once again, with some great goal keeping from the St Joe's keeper.
As the game drew to a close Hitchin were caught off guard and as usual St Joe's took their chance to finish the game off 2-1.
Unlike previous meetings with St Joe's, this game was well refereed and therefore even though we lost the game it didnt feel like a loss, as all players did well...we were just unlucky! We still have 2 games left before the end of the season in which the top 3 can all win!
Well done boys, we know how disappointed you are but 2 left to go.....
