The visit of Fairlands gave both the Hawks & Harriers an opportunity to take advantage of their week of extra training having not had a match the previous week.
The Hawks started off their match by conceding another early goal which was always going to put them at a disadvantage, but they again showed their spirit with some good attacking play. Another goal saw them go in at half time 2-0 down, but the break allowed them to start afresh.
A good start to the second half saw them rewarded with a penalty - which unfortunately hit the inside of the post and somehow managed not to go in! Another break saw Fairlands increase their lead and continue to do so until it 5-0. Yet again though, the team showed their determination and a long kick from Alistair found Ben who went through to score our first goal - cue touchline and pitch celebrations!
Just like buses - after a long wait, two come along together - and some great movement from Elliot, Ben and Thomas combined to provide Elliot with a far post goal to bring the final score to 2-5.
The Harriers also started well with a good mix of defence and attack. It was obvious that they had all been listening during training - although Chris was on hand to remind them in his gentle whisper if they needed! A Fairlands shot from out of the area came through at speed but there was little that debutant 'keeper Ryan D could do about it.
The second half was very similar to the first in terms of play, but it was noticeable that everyone was starting to think about how they link together and play as a unit. Another goal saw the score go to 2-0, which was where it stayed until the final whistle thanks again to some good defending and goalkeeping.
This was another great improvement for the squad with far more attacking play and shots at goal. The relief of scoring was obvious and this resulted in increased confidence across both matches which hopefully will continue at Buntingford on Saturday.
