Hitchin Town Reds v Eaton Bray Lions

Saturday, January 6 2007

Hitchin Under-10s stayed top of the Chiltern Junior Sevens Division Two after this convincing win, with a hat-trick for leading scorer Kameron.

In driving rain, Hitchin stuck to their passing style. This was a very good performance overall.

Despite being near the bottom of the league, Eaton Bray were well organised and committed. They probably deserved a goal, but a defence superbly marshalled by man-of-the-match Paddy wasn’t going to give anything away today.

Hitchin started off with shots from Liam, well saved by the Eaton keeper, plus Ryan and Jake from outside the box. Eaton broke well, with one attack stopped by a brave recovering tackle by Alfie.

Hitchin broke the deadlock when the ball came loose to Ryan in the box, who thumped home brilliantly with his right foot – especially sweet given that he is a left-footed player.

The pressure grew, with more chances including an Ollie piledriver just over the bar. Then a brilliant move saw Paddy win the ball on the edge of the box and pass to Liam, Liam to Jake, Jake to Kameron, who played a one-two with the unselfish Christian to make it 2-0.

The second half saw Jake switch from midfield to replace Luke in goal, then two more excellent passing moves as Kameron got his second and then his third.

Four nil final score and another important win, with Hitchin just a point ahead of Crawley Green at the halfway stage of the season.
