Wymondley Park U9 v Hitchin Town U9

Saturday, November 4 2006

With no involvement in the inaugral U9 County Cup and therefore a free week, a 'friendly' was arranged with Wymondley Park who are by all reports having a super season in the South Division.

Lucas Lane was the venue for the two Hitchin teams to face each other in this weeks local derby.

The Bullets were on first, and trailed 1-0 at half time, but it was pleasing to see Fridays training session having a positive effect with Dan in particular getting in a number of shots on target but not past the goalie.  The second half saw WPFC kicking down their slope and keeping the Bullets under pressure.  Rhys in goal was alert and came out to block/smother opportunities when they arose.  A second goal was scored direct from a corner, low at the near post and that was how the game ended.

Final Score: 2-0

Man of the Match: Rhys

The Arrows were so unlucky in their game after 30 seconds to see the ball in the back of their own net, deflecting off their own player following a WPFC corner.

But the Arrows were not downhearted and put the disappointment behind them. They defended bravely, and Joe and Harry both had snaking runs through midfield to pressurise WPFC.

It was end to end stuff and Karl, Peter and Jack L had to show their best defensive skills to keep WPFC at bay.  Nothing was getting past them today!

The start of the second half saw Sam W make a brilliant save, literally plucking the ball up off of the players boot. Gianni and Matthew M worked hard to keep posession and had shots but goals eluded them today.

Their wingers were kept busy by Jack H and Sam F with Jack H crossing in some great searching shots and Sam F fully deserving his man of the match award with his persistant tackling.  He just never gives up on the ball!

A second goal for WPFC came just before the final whistle following a free kick to them on the edge of the box.
It was a disappointing end for the Arrows who had battled hard to perhaps snatch an equaliser and draw the game.

Final Score: 2-0

Man of the Match: Sam F

Arrows report by Saff

Despite the result, this was a fine performance from the boys.  Hopefully they will learn to not concede soft goals against opposition that are very capable and attack with a lot of speed.  This was a very entertaining game played at great tempo by both sides.  Well done all players of both clubs.  Jez
