Fairlands Youth U9 v Hitchin Town Youth U9

Hitchin put out two Arrows teams in this weeks match against an in-form Fairlands, the only game they have lost being in the County Cup.

Under the watchful eye of a very well turned out ref!, the first Arrows team kicked off what turned out to be a thrilling match.

The drama begain almost immediately with Fairlands hitting the post after a goal mouth scramble and then forcing a fingertip save from Rhys. At the other end Karl almost scored a great direct free kick and Peter had a shot saved.

Jack H worked hard at the back, passing balls through to midfield and Sam W battled hard down the wing.  The Arrows showed they were the masters of the passing game when Jack L threaded a lovely ball to Joseph who scored! 1-0 to Hitchin at half-time.

Arrows joy was shortlived as just a minute into the second half the ball ended up in the back of their own net, unfortunately deflecting off their own player.

Not to be downhearted the Arrows battled back and Jack L and Joseph linked again, this time Jack putting in a composed cross to Joe who scored again!

Fairlands responded by exerting pressure on Hitchin and had 2 corners in quick succession and were then awarded a penalty for handball.  Rhys showed his worth by pulling off a great save!  As the seconds counted down to full-time still Fairlands piled on the pressure and again had 3 corners in quick succession. Their equaliser came with what turned out to be the last kick of the game.

Final Score: 2 - 2

The second game didnt go our way, the boys had been waiting around in the cold, half of their team had played in the first match and this had a little effect early on.

However, everybody played their part in a battling display.  Harry in the first half and Sam F in the second kept goal really well, both making some good saves, and Harry finding his wide players with some accurate kicks, but couldnt stop Fairlands players from scoring twice in the first half.  David and Brandon cleared their lines well mostly and denied a quick moving team as much as they could.

Matthew M, Sam F and Gianni battled and battled but goal scoring chances were few.  Dan up front had a strong run ending in a powerful shot which tested their keeper, but the half ended 2-0.

The best chances of the second half couldnt be converted when Harry fired a free kick across goal but noone got a touch, and Gianni hit a fantastic long range shot crashing against the bar, the rebound just put wide by Matthew M.

A third goal in the second half for the deserved winners, but the promising parts of this game would have beaten most sides.  Well done all of you.
