Hitchin Town Youth U14 v Hemel Aces U14

Sunday, January 21 2007

Hitchin Town were once again drawn at home. Unfortunately, with our County Pitch being un-playable, Herts County gave us permission to play this tie in Bedfordshire with the acceptance of Hemel Aces. This was agreed along with the assigned referee travelling over.

We all knew this was going to be a tough game, the fact that Hemel Aces are a strong good footballing side , who have already beaten us twice in last years Bournemouth Tournament and our pre-season friendly!!

Bryn Reynolds came up trumps when at the last minuete our Goalkeeper, Jack, pulled up just before kick off with an injured back.

Hitchin Town started off fast and furious with some great passing around the pitch. Tom Burke, Jordan Armstrong, Kyle Ronalds and Gareth Hedges in Midfield played well together and got the ball through to Laim Toomey and Michael Evans up front on numerous occasions but were denied the all important goal by some great goal keeping from the Hemel Aces goal keeper!

I was just a matter of time before a great through ball to Liam saw him smash the ball into the back of the net to put us in front.

The defense of Matt Aherne, Matt Morley, Aaron Goldsmith and Josh Millett were strong yet again and composed with any attacks towards our goal mouth.

With the scoreline at 1-0 at half time the boys stayed strong and fought for every ball. It is safe to say Hitchin were connecting better than the visitors and yet again Liam was given his chance to add another to his tally. Hemel Aces held their heads high and dug deeper to try and find something to break
the deadlock and were rewarded with a goal to bring the score to 2-1.

With a renewed confidence Hemel Aces pushed up and tried all over the park to get an equaliser, but the defense and our 'stand in' goalie pulled off some dramatic saves and tackles to deny any further attempts at goal.

Hitchin Town were quite simply better on the day and after a chance 1 on 1 with the goalkeeper Liam was cool and calm and rewarded with his hatrick. Well done Liam

As the game came towards the final whistle, some fantastic play between Kyle Ronalds and Jordan Armstrong, saw Jordan score one more goal to bring the final score to 4-1.

Well done to all of you.... still unbeaten this season!!  We are now safely through to the Quarter Finals of the Herts Couty Cup.

Keep it up
