The Champions versus the Steelmen...on April Fools Day ?? but thankfully no slip ups for 'Sharks who played in sunny blustery conditions against a much improved Steelmen and emerged the victors in a 3-1 win.
Firesharks pressured Steelemen for most of the first half but off target shots kept us just two goals ahead at half time. Courtney pounced for the first goal and Courts and Dom were both scrabbling for a bouncing ball in the box for the second... which saw Dom eventually tuck it away...with his 'chin' ! Ryan was called into action with a superb full length fingertip save and then gathered safely the loose ball.
Second half saw us with slight more accuracy on passing but Steelmen took whatever opportunity they could to hit us on the break and consequently scored with a fierce drive which Ryan did superbly well to parry but it dropped over the line 2-1.
Courts tucked away our 3rd with my favourite move of the match - a long throw in from Joe M saw Nick return the pass, the ball was put into the box - helped on by Nick and Courtney turned and hit a sweet drive dead centre of the net first time...........and then cartwheeled in celebration.
Nick, Joe F and Joe M all went close with shots either blocked, saved or just whistling wide. Good performances from both Ethan & Kayne today with Andy missing, Ethan was particularly close in his marking and closed players down excellently, classy touches from Dom, usual hard work from Nick who was unlucky not to score, Courtney ran Man of the Match a close second, Joe F showed good skills and intelligent slotting through of the ball and Joe M worked very hard. Ryan was not overworked but had to be alert throughout. Kayne had an excellent game.
The Champions celebrated at the end of the match with some 'fizz' for the adults , silly string and things that went bang......well why not? A nice Easter break for the Champions now and then our final 3 matches of the season, currently unbeaten and 8 points clear at the top. Well done Boys.
