Hitchin Town (Luton) Youth U13’s - Newport Pagnell Tournament

Saturday, May 27 2006

Hitchin Town (Luton) Youth this weekend travelled to Newport Pagnell for their annual Football Tournament.  Hitchin Town Youth entered 2 teams, Yellows and Greens, from their squad of 16 for the 6-aside Tournament.

On an extremely wet and windy day and with such an early start!!!!…… both teams did extremely well within the group stages, playing some great football.  Hitchin Town Youth Yellows successfully gained 2nd  place in their league and Hitchin Town Youth Greens safely gaining 1st Place in their league after winning 5 of their 6 games!

Both teams, therefore, earned their places in the quarter-finals.  These were extremely important games, as the winner of each game would play each other in the semi-final!!!!
Hitchin Town Youth Yellows had a great game but were unfortunate to lose 3-1 and therefore made an exit from the tournament.  Well done boys, you played your hearts out. We are very proud of your achievement J

Hitchin Town Youth Greens were on a roll though, and with some outstanding play throughout the game, the boys easily saw off their opponents with a resounding win of 3-0 taking them into the semi finals.

The semi-finals saw the boys come head to head with a team we had already played in the group stages and won against!  The game was tight but with more amazing football, the boy’s showed their strength and determination winning the game 1-0 to see them safely into the final.

The final, between the home side, Newport Pagnell, was bound to be a tight game… we had played this team in our league and were unfortunate to lose 1-0, the only game we had lost all day!  But with statistics like 20 goals scored and only 1 goal let in, each and every player knew they were good enough to bring home the trophy.

As expected the game was in fact tight and we were unlucky to go 1-0 down.  But our boy’s dug deep, kept their head held high and managed to score a magnificent goal to bring us level just before the full time whistle.  So yet again, as like last week at Rushdon & Diamond’s, the Hitchin Town Greens had to go to penalties.

With nerves of steel, Josh Corkhill , Kyle Ronald and Jack Murphy stood up to take their shots and saw each one hit the back of the net.   Final Score 1- 1 (HTYFC win on penalties 3-2) Hitchin Town Youth FC won this tournament in spectacular style. Managers, Parents and everyone involved went crazy!!!!!!!

Each and every boy deserved this result, you played outstanding all day, you gave your all and for that you were rewarded and crowned U13'S Champions of the Newport Pagnell Tournament.

Well done to all of you, Matt Morley, Ciaran Newton, Jack Murphy, Josh Corkhill, Kyle Ronald, Aaron Goldsmith, Matt Gibson and Jack. We are soooooooooooooooo proud of you all….. You are SHINING STARS!!!!
