We arrived to find blustery conditions and a bumpy pitch a far cry from the carpet of Ickleford.
Playing into the wind (about 2 clubs worth) the Arrows were on first and under pressure having difficulty gaining possession against a side who play a very good passing game, with an extra season under their belts already.
Sam W and Harry were very busy in defence but coping with a wave of attacks, anything that did get past was dealt with well by Rhys in goal or helped behind by the wind. Jack, Joseph and Sam F battled well in midfield but eventually the boys fell behind to trail 1-0.
Peter was continuing up front after going goal crazy recently, and fed one great pass across to Karl who was tackled before he could finish from the edge of the area.
Despite having the wind in the second half, going further behind very early set the tone for the second half. Arrows did make it 2-1 when Jack pulled the ball back for Karl to spin and shoot under the advancing keeper for his 11th goal of the season.
The travelling supporters and coaches sensed a comeback, but straight from the kick-off Letchworth scored again. Misplaced passes then provided further opportunities for the hosts, some saved superbly by Rhys, four others finding the back of our net to leave the final score 7-1.
A harsh lesson for the boys, who I believe given time together have the potential to challenge at this age group. To their credit Letchworth conquered the conditions and are by far the best passing side we have faced.
M.O.M. Rhys
for some outstanding saves - a great shot stopper.
Next up the Bullets against opposition who have hit double figures this season. With the wind at our backs Rhys continued in goal and was protected well by David and Matthew W in the first half, however Letchworth did manage two goals to lead at the break.
Arjun came into defence making a solid return after several weeks away on the tennis circuit.
Daniel was having a fine game in midfield, coming away with the ball in any 50-50 and was supported by tough tackling Brandon, with Max on the left. Zach had the hardest job trying to feed off scraps up front. Well done to the boys who kept going depsite conceding four more in the second half.
M.O.M Daniel
for a very good game - beginning to use his physical strength alongside an ever improving 'touch'.
Well done to all boys in both teams - as your recent performances indicate, you are improving weekly and will not face many sides as clever as Letchworth.
Last week in my absence our fortunes were better against Hormead Hares. Arrows recorded a 3-2 victory (Joseph 2, Peter). The Bullets drew 1-1 (Jack). Thanks to Heb & Karen for all your help.
