On a beautiful spring morning at last! and with a much changed team Hitchin got back to winning ways with a 5-0 romp against a Biggleswade team determined to battle from the first to the last whistle.
With two new debutante's in goal, new defensive trio, new strike partners, and a reshuffled midfield the entire squad was able to play in a new position today and How!
Biggleswade started strong and created some concerted pressure. The boys took a while to adjust we thought at first to their new positions but we later found that the midfield generals had been on a sleepover! bed at 4am and an hours less sleep!!. But they eventually awoke from their slumber and started to get a grip of the game.
Olly had a few moments where he forgot that he could use his hands in goal! but his kicking was excellent from hand and set up some promising attacks. The new defensive trio of Dale (best game in a Hitchin shirt) Tom K & Billy seemed to be loving the amount of involvement in the game and they were in commanding form. The midfield sleepover of James Tom Pr & Mat started to get a hold on the game feeding the wing backs of Ben ( who was back to his best today) & Berkley.
Harry was busy upfront enjoying himself having been released from his goalie duties and along side him was the superstar of the team Super Sam. What a performance from our normal centre half he terrorised the opposition and after having 3 shots either saved by the brave Biggleswade goalie, blocked or hitting the woodwork he finally sprung the offside trap and slotted into the far corner of the net,1-0 Hitchin half time.
With another swap around Hitchin continued to dominate and although Sam had switched to wing back he was the boy on the ball to bag his second of the game. Olly & Billy switched position and although Billy had very little to do I'm sure he will have enjoyed the experience, but Olly I thought had a great game at centre half full of dominance and authority. Dale continued the same as the first with increased confidence he was winning headers and getting to the ball first and distributing well.
Tom K showed much improved positioning and was very tenacious in the tackle. Harry dropped back into midfield and was starting to put his foot on the ball and pass to the ever eager Sam who was now feeding the hungry lads upfront of James & Berkley who both had chances with James excellently lobbing the advancing keeper for 3-0 and then showing his full commitment & determination to tackle for the ball win it and stick into the empty net well done 4-0.
Mat & Tom P were equally getting the ball to Ben who was determined to score today and he obliged after politely asking Ryan to leave the ball for him! 5-0 This was after Ryan had come on and put a lovely volley towards the top corner with almost his first touch only to be denied by a now very busy Biggleswade keeper.
It was one way traffic now but hats off to the Biggleswade who battled all the way to the end and with that kind of commitment will have a more successful season next, Good Luck.
But to Hitchin Town Under 12's you got back to winning & smiling ways today well done to you all and one last push next week for 4th slot and you can be very pleased with your season well done!
