After having two weeks without a game, Hitchin Town Luton Youth FC were once again drawn against top of the table Bedford Town Colts. After the last game against this team, we knew this was going to be extremely tough and on such a bitter cold morning we knew all boys on pitch were going to have to give 110%.
Unfortunately, to our amazement, Bedford Town Colts opened the scoring with a goal within 20 seconds from the start!!!! What a shocker !!!
The boys regained there composure and held their heads high in order to give the league leaders a game.
All boys were fighting for every ball and looked comfortable passing the ball around the pitch. It wasnt long before after some good play in midfield , Hitchin Town Luton Youth started getting the ball into the opponents area. Some good shots at goal were only to be denied some some fantastic goal keeping from the Visitors. Yet again Bedford Town increased the pressure and were awarded another 2 goals before half time bringing the scoreline to 0-3.
A few changes were made at half time which saw the boys really come into their own. With some fantastic passing between the midfield we looked strong and resilient. Hitchin Town were first to most balls and and then with confidence and ability were playing some great football. Jack Murphey was srong and fought for everything. Ciaran Newton played fantastic up front linking well with Tom Burke, but was unfortunate not to slot the ball home, only being denied by the post!
With such good play from all boys on pitch you could see Hitchin Town Luton grow in confidence and really showed how good we can play when we really want to. Matt Russell (aka Pidgeon) in goal made some stunning saves throughout the game, well done Pidgeon! With a strong midfield and an even stronger defence in the second half we took control of the game, only to be denied yet again with good goal keeping and the cross bar!
The game ended a respectful 0-3 and all boys played their socks off. Your ability really showed through in the second half and it was fantastic to see so many of you enjoying the game, even though we lost. We learn so much from you each time you play and you should all be extremely proud of the way you ALL put 100% into the game...we cant ask for more than that. Man of the Match was a difficult decision this week as so many of you played at your best, but for playing solid and out of your normal position within the team this was awarded to Josh Corkhill (JC),
Well done to all of you :-)
