Firesharks Praised at MHRM Awards and A Win For Firesharks at Gosling Youth Tournament

Wednesday, June 20 2007

Firesharks were singled out for praise at a superbly run and packed out Awards ceremony held in Broxbourne last Sunday by Brigg Sports Mid Herts Rural Minors League.

The Chairman of MHRM cited Firesharks 'great achievement' in their first season in MHRM after being placed in Div 2 in September - the team were moved after a series of high scoring wins and placed in the prestigious Premier Division.

This meant that 'Sharks were playing 'catch up' matches for several months and then fixture chaos at the end of the season meant two games a week for Firesharks in April and May. To miss out on the Champions position by just 2 points was a tremendous effort by all the players and this was generously recognised by the League.

Selected players from Firesharks battled the wet and windy weather in Welwyn to emerge winners of the popular Gosling  6- A- Side U 11 Tournament beating Potters Bar Crusaders in the final 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Courts.

The players did fantastically well in unseasonably bad weather and with just one Gazebo between the group of 18 - we had a decision to make....how to get to the Trophy Presenting area in lashing down rain from where we were camped some considerable distance away on the other side of the field

Did we

A) Leg it .....with our inside out brollys/ our wet kids/ our wet pies / our inappropriate footwear / our wet 'Echo's ' ?

OR

B) Hoist Gazebo into air and all walk with it and inside it (18 sets of legs)across huge area gathering other peoples kids/other peoples picnic baskets / other peoples pets/ other peoples small teams  until we reached the Trophy area and set it down happy with selves. ?

Answers next week.........
