The boys started the game all fired up and ready to play on a glorious sunny autumn morning. Two minutes into the game came our first chance with Lee crossing to Ruman who was unable to convert due to good Bushmead marking, which continued until the end of play.
Back in defence, both Jack and Callum worked hard blocking the ball and closing Bushmead play down. Lee worked hard to pass the ball up front and a great kick by Lee went over the cross bar.
Matt made several important saves including confidently saving a potentially dangerous bouncing ball. Simmy had two good attempts at goal; his first tried to make good on a Lee corner but he couldn't get it past the keeper; his second attempt came from a free-kick taken by Lee to Simmy then calmly past Bushmead defence and bang in the back of the net…..a Hitchin goal ! Oli was brought on for Ruman and battled hard with Alfie.
Jack made two great passes across the opponents goal but Hitchin were unable to capitalise on these. In the last few minutes Hitchin came under intense pressure as Bushmead tried desperately to equalise and hogged our goal line. The half-time whistle couldn't come quickly enough, but came with us one nil up.
The second half started with Alfie off injured. Bushmead came out attacking from the outset, desperate for an equaliser. Oli, Callum and Jack kept trouble at bay blocking and clearing their attempts.
Jack had a good attempt but in the confusion of rapid play couldn't hit it home. After 10 minutes of play we picked up pace and looked hungry for another goal but despite some great passing by Alfie, back on for Simmy, we couldn't find the goal we wanted. Jack picked up a bad knock but bravely continued play. Shortly after Bushmead scored, despite a solid performance by 'Safe hands' Matt. Another good effort saw Lee brought down by the Bushmead goal mouth and minutes later a near own goal by a Bushmead defender.
The boys deserved to win as they gave it their all and dominated much of the play, but it wasn't to be.
