Hitchin Town Hurricanes U10's v Stevenage Borough U10's

Saturday, October 15 2005

The sun came out for this pre-league friendly against the well known and well liked Stevenage Borough Stripes who with their great bunch of lads and supporters always help make it an enjoyable game every time we meet.

With two players short today we still fielded seven with the debut of Rhys but no substitutes were available and Jack had to step back into his goalkeepers mode for the day.

It was a brilliant game from the start with both teams attacking and counter-attacking in turn with several shots on goal at either end. First blood soon came for Stripes as a corner was neatly converted from inside the box to give our guests an early lead. True to style though, Hurricanes responded by upping the pace and soon they were playing a magnificent passing game that saw us get the equaliser after a Lee corner was knocked away by the Borough keeper only for Ruman to tap it into the net from close in. Lee almost made it two just before half time with a cracking shot from way out that just cleared the bar.

The second half was just as good with Jack showing that he hadn't lost his touch when it comes to wearing the number 1 shirt making several brilliant saves throughout. Lee again went close shaking the side netting and Oliver opened his seasons score sheet with a great strike to give us the lead. Alfie had a first class game and was unlucky not to add a third with a super long range attempt that went just wide. Rhys did well in defence in his first appearance under the guidance of Jack and the ever reliable master of the defensive role Callum. A display of magic by all!
