Firesharks v John Warner U 11's

Saturday, April 14 2007

Fantastic Firesharks swapped positions with John Warner at the top of the Premier Division with a convincing 4-0 win and a top class performance against the league leaders.

After a collapse in our last match I cannot praise the players highly enough for their efforts and team play in this game. They put in an outstanding performance against a very intelligent John Warner team who play some excellent football.

But...today this was very much the Firesharks feared across three different youth football leagues and when they are in this sort of form they are peerless.

Action from the match

A different formation and players with clear jobs to do today saw for me and I think many watching a great display of U 11 football at a very high standard which was complimented on both by the opposition and the league appointed referee.
On 5 minutes excellent wing play by Ethan and Dom on the left saw Nick send in a shot 1-0.

The game was superb to watch and although John Warner threatened at times the back 3 of Ruman Andy and Kayne were excellent, Joe M was giving a virtuoso performance of defensive midfielder, and our midfield 4 of Matt, Nick, Ethan and Kieran were in blinding form. Second balls were snapped up by 'Sharks and every goal kick or clearance seemed to be headed powerfully back at length by Nick, Matt or Joe M.  Ryan made 3 good saves , one at point blank range even though whistled for offside but what he had to do he did efficiently and with excellent positioning.

Action from the match

On 28 minutes a pass from Courts saw Nick try a long range from edge of box which the keeper fumbled and 2-0 it was at half time.

Six minutes into the second half saw Kieran and Courts involved and Courts finding himself on right side of the area lofted in a good chip which went over the goalie to make it 3-0........superb finishing.  On 50 minutes pressure on the left side of the area saw Dom receive the ball with his back to goal , again cool finishing as he rolled the defender and let fly with a right foot volley to make it 4-0.

Action from the match

The boys were in great form with Dom and Courts looking very dangerous on the break, Joe F made a good contribution earlier in the game but was injured and so just the 11 completed the match.

There was no way we could award Man of the Match to anyone except the whole team today - I think it will remain for me as one of their best performances of the last 3 seasons.
