With two games to go, this win has left Hitchin Under 10s clinging onto hopes that they might yet win the league.
They will probably have to win both of those games, including a tough showdown with Crawley Green, but this performance against Ampthill at least saw a return to good passing and movement.
It will have helped confidence too, with the boys playing well from the first minute to last. Ryan, made captain for the day, set things going from the whistle. A neat one-two with Christian saw him shoot just wide, and his header from a Liam cross brought a good save from the home keeper.
Like most sides, Ampthill have improved as the season has developed. The goalkeeper, particularly, had a much better game than when Hitchin won 7-0 earlier in the season.
Luke made a save from an Ampthill attack before Ryan made it one nil to Hitchin after following up a Christian shot against the post.
As Hitchin relaxed, their football flowed and a quality finish from Kameron built a two goal advantage just before half-time.
Early in the second, Ryan was just off target with a smart left footer, whilst Ampthill tested Ollie, Paddy and Alfie at the back with some good football of their own.
After a brilliant saving tackle in the box from Jake, Hitchin went on to make the game safe as Kameron scored again.
