Hitchin Town Reds v Luton Leagrave Orange

Sunday, March 18 2007

Hitchin Under 10s stay second in the league with three games to go, but this was a disappointing defeat as the Chiltern Junior Sevens League reaches its climax.

Fourth placed Leagrave Orange were well organised and deserved their win, with particular praise due for an outstanding goalkeeping performance.

Sluggish on a windy day and finding it hard to find space, Hitchin never hit top form, but did make the keeper work. Jake had an exocet strike from outside the box smartly tipped over, and Kameron had a header well saved.

Leagrave were always dangerous on the break, with Luke making a fine save in the Hitchin goal just before the end of a tight first period.

Just into the second half, a quality left footed strike by one of Leagrave's tireless midfielders made it 0-1.

Hitchin pressed forward, playing with just Paddy at the back and Jake in midfield as they hunted for a crucial equaliser. Liam had a shot that ran along the line and an excellent run and cross from Christian saw Ryan fire just wide. Another scramble also saw Hitchin hit the post. But Leagrave had their chances too, including a long shot against the bar late on.

Three games to go. Time for hard work, teamwork and a positive attitude.
