Hitchin Town Youth U16 v Sun Postal Youth

Sunday, January 28 2007

Hitchin went out of the Herts County Cup in extra time after a brave and battling performance against a Watford team who have featured in the County Cup Final in each of the past four seasons. This fact alone shows the calibre of the performance and is a measure of how far the lads have progressed.

After a goal-less first-half the visitors took the lead in controversial fashion when 'keeper Seb Rowland appeared to be barged over the line in an aerial challenge. Responding magnificently to this set-back, Hitchin levelled with five minutes left through a Tom James header. Both sides had late chances to avoid extra-time, Junior Morrison having a shot agonisingly cleared off the line, and Seb making a wonder save from point-blank range in the final minute.

A goal in the second period of extra-time settled the tie, but even then the lads pressed to the end with Junior's effort being ruled out on a marginal offside decision. The lads bowed out of the County Cup with their heads held high.
