Hitchin Towns finest, those fabby Firesharks, fired 10 goals past Rising Stars to go 5 big points clear at the top of the Premier Division.
Some fantastic goals today on a difficult surface, had it been a perfect pitch the opposition would have been seeing stars never mind 'Rising' as we inflicted our opponents heaviest defeat of the season. Friendly kids though in the Stars team and also friendly Stars parents who were overheard saying "Don't they look nice in blue" ......... the management or the team? we never quite found out... but cute all the same...........anyway another classic quote for you at the end of this report.
On 5 minutes Kieran sent over one of his classic crosses and Courts converted 6 yards out 1-0. Courts was torturing the Stars left and he set off on another powerful run on 13 minutes, sending in a Kieran type cross for Nick to convert 2-0. Matt was supplier for our third which Courts converted on 20 minutes from inside the box 3-0.
Matty got felled about 25 yards out and was chosen to take the resulting free kick which he scored directly from- just taking a slight deflect from a Stars defender on the way - good goal 4-0. Ineffective clearances from Stars due to 'Sharks pressure saw the ball come out of a crowded box to Joe F who volleyed in high over the keepers head to make it 5-0 - good one Joe!
Somewhere before half time Stars pulled one back and 5-1 it stood at the interval.
Nick picked up from the last 2 games and scored a mazy individual effort to make it 6-1. On 38 minutes nice work from Ruman around the penalty area saw Courtney finish and so 7-1.On 43 minutes from about 18 yards Nick volleyed in his hat trick with a great left foot strike 8-1. Dejected Stars were not shining brightly now and Courts pounced again in a goalmouth scramble to make it 9-1.
With 3 minutes to go Nick struck again with a good finish and hello double figures........10-1.
I particularly liked Ethans contribution today supporting the left side of midfield and his tracking back, Courtney had an outstanding game, I was really pleased with Joe F's contribution today, loads of effort in pressuring the ball, dispossessing their players ,some great interplay with Courts up front and a goal.....a deserved Man of the Match.
I am sure dear readers that you appreciate we all get things wrong sometimes in junior football, but an 'anon' from the opposition made a strange comment today which thankfully could only be laughed at.........and thats just what the Firesharks boys did ........wait for it.....................
"That was never a 10-1 win..........that was just 10 mistakes by us " oh well ![]()
Result : Rising Stars 1 Firesharks 10 ( Nick 4 Courts 4 Joe F 1 Matt1 )
Man of the Match Joe F ![]()
