Celtic Youth U14 v Hitchin Town Youth U14

Wednesday, April 18 2007

Hitchin Town were drawn away, midweek, for the first meet against challenging Celtic Youth FC. With both teams fighting for the championship spot so this was an extremely important game for both sides.

The game started off fast and furious with both sides playing some fantastic football.  Hitchins midfield of Jordan Armstrong, Matt Gibson, Kyle Ronald and Bryn Reynolds were strong and fought for every ball.  The defence of Matt Morley, Matt Aherne, Josh Millet and Aaron Goldsmith were tight and compose throughout the game. Gareth Hedges and Jake Daniels were awesome up front and linked up well having a few shots at goal.

After, a corner was awarded to Hitchin yet agin for the second game in a row, Matt Morley came from his defensive position to attack the cross which lead to a fantastic header in the back of the net. 0-1.

Hitchin were in front and winning most balls. Unfortunately, for both sides, the Ref was, to put in nicely, out of his depth.  Too many bad decisions for both sides one which saw Celtic Youth awarded a penalty, literally 2 mins after going in front. Celtic took avantage with a well taken penalty to bring the scoreline level at half time.

Both sides looked extremely hungry for the win and were determined to attack throuhgout.  Hitchin were strong, a few changes saw Tom Burke, Ross Bates and Michael Evans come onto the field in an attempt to grab the winning goal.

The passing of all the boys on pitch was a delight to see, us spectatiors were treated to a quite remarkable game with lots of twists and turns.  After a fantastic through ball from midfield Gareth Hedges thundered his way through the home sides defence to smash the ball into the back of the net, gaining us the well deserved win.

All of you last night were amazing, your determination and composure was electric.  We are all so proud of you.  Still unbeaten this season in the league!!!

Well done to all of you, I'm sure you all still have those smiles on your faces, we do
