Hitchin Town Youth U14 v Crawley Green Youth U14

Sunday, April 22 2007

Hitchin Town Youth were drawn at home this weekend to 4th placed Crawley Green Youth. This, as all games are, was a must win game in order for us to gain the Championship title. After our last meeting, (3-3), Crawley were obviosuly confident in their ability to give us a challenging game.

Both team started off well with both midfields working their socks off. I think it was safe to say though that Hitchin seemed to have a slight upper hand over the visitors. Hitchin midfield of Jordan, Matt, Kyle and and Bryn were strong and fought for everything. Gareth and Jake had a few chances denied by a fantastic display of goal keeping from Crawley.

Hitchin played some fantstic one touch football and after a through ball forward Jake Daniels (aka Peanut) took his chance to smash the ball into the back of the net to take the lead, 1-0 just before half time. Well Done Peanut!

The second half staretd much the same with both sides makiing good fair tackles. Crawley had a few attempts at goal but, this time Jack was just too good and stopped any attacks on his goal mouth.

With only 9 minutes left at the end of the game it was imperative that Hitchin fought for everything. Hitchin Defense of Matt Aherne, Matt Morley, Josh Millet aznd Aaron , yet agin had an outstanding day and were solid throughout.

Unfortunately, the game was to take an unexpected twist when Jack Ambler (Goalie) and Matt Aherne (Def) clashed into each other in the box. It was obvious to all spectators that both boys were injured badly. Matt A luckily recovered from his back injury but unfortunately Jacks injury was clearly something that he was not going to be able to recover from. An ambulance was called, and our fears were confimed, Jack had broken and displaced his ankle!

Whilst waiting for the ambulance, to arrive, Bryn Reynolds stepped up to fill the goal keeping position for the rest of the game. He pulled off 2 amazing saves to keep our clean sheet.  Well done Bryn you were amazing!

Well done to all of you, you were strong and determined throughout the game.

Of course, with Jack now out for the rest of the season, we will have to change the team around to compensate for Jack's injury. We are confident in all of you to continue winning and now , more than ever, win Division 1, it is possible, and all of you have stepped up your game just at the right time. Only 3 more wins and you will be Champions!!
