On a glorius Sunday afternoon Hitchin Town Youth U14's were drawn for their first game of the season against the newly formed academy side of Stevenage Borough FC U14's.
Hitchin Town started this new season showing just how well our boys can play. With our new kits, genoursly sponsored by Barton Dental Surgery, the boys not only looked the part but backed it up with some fine displays of one touch football.
The boys dominated the field of play and didnt allow Stevenage to really get any control of the game. The defence of Matt Morley (C), Gareth Hedges, Aaron Goldsmith and Josh Millet were awesome and any attacks at our goal were instantly quashed!
It wasnt long until after some great midfield play by Matt Gibson, Jordan Armstrong, Bryn Reynolds and Kyle Ronald the ball inched its way into the path of goal hungry Mickey O'Hanlon to take our boys in front.
With confidence on their side, all players showed their outstanding abilities and after a free kick was awarded Kyle Ronald slammed the ball into the back of the net to take us 2- 0 up at half time.
With the second half starting a few changes were made, Matt Aherne, Andrew Robins and Ross Bates were bought on from our extremely strong squad to show some outstanding capabilites.
After some fantastic link up play between Jake Daniels (aka peanut!) and Mickey up front, Peanut took his chance and created his first goal of the season bringing the scoreline to an impressive 3-0.
Jack Ambler (GK) had a few long range shots from the away side but he showed a calm, confident side to his game by not allowing anything to pass him.
As the game came to a close, Hitchin Town played with a passion hopefully we as spectators will see throughout the season and after some more great link up play, Mickey slottted the ball home to bring the final scoreline to 4-0.
This was an extremely important game for us and we showed we are a team to watch out for this season. We have a number of new signings this season but you played like you have been together for years.
Congratulations to all of you. We, the spectators were extremely proud of how you played. Keep It up Boys !!
