Barry Alderson's team kicked off their new season in the Chiltern Junior Sevens Under-10s league cup tournament with an unlucky 3-2 reverse away at Crawley Green.
Hitchin dominated the first half, with a series of corners and were leading 1-0 at half-time after a cross from Jake was deflected home by an opposing defender. The second half saw a spirited Crawley equalise through a penalty and then go 2-1 ahead.
Hitchin then dominated again and, after several good saves from the opposing goalkeeper, looked to be back on their way to a victory when Cameron poked home an equaliser.
But Crawley responded quickly to go 3-2 up and then held out for victory, with their impressive keeper again making some crucial saves as time finally ran out.
