In the extreme heat and with a number of new signings, Hitchin started slowly against a committed St.Neots team, but as the game settled down only some outstanding saves from the visitor's 'keeper kept the game goal-less.
Around the half-hour mark, two smart finishes by Junior Morrison meant the boys went in to the welcome half-time shade with a 2-0 lead.
The second-half saw Hitchin increase the tempo and the defence, expertly marshalled by skipper Lee Moulton, restricted St.Neots to long range shots, so the points never looked in danger.
Mid-way through the half, Junior completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot to complete a confortable opening-day victory.
