Under 13 Canaries were on song as they raced to a winning start to the new campaign 4-0 against a valiant Sawbridgeworth.
After some swift painting of lines and grass cutting by enthusiastic Dads a delayed start could not stop a rampaging new look Under 13's team take this game by the scruff of the neck. Sawbo have proved a much sterner match in recent seasons but with our new boys sparkling the only danger was we could not convert the many chances we were creating and could fall to the counter attack.
With new boy Sam terrorising the Sawbo defence wonderfully assisted by Ben"Henry" we shouldn't have really worried, their partnership upfront looks set to provide an avalanche of goals and beautiful football for this coming season.
Indeed it was Sam who finished with a terrific strike to put Hitchin 1-0 at half time after numerous saves by the overworked Sawbo keeper and goalposts!
The second half continued in the same manner with lots of chances being created without the end product that they deserved until Ben 1 on 1 with the keeper was a judged have been fouled. Up stepped the very impressive Joe our free signing from Norwich who coolly slotted home the pen 2-0.
Hitchin were now cruising and it is worth mentioning another debutante Mickey who in his first ever competitive game had an immense game in defence.
Ben was rampant now and won another penalty which he duly put away himself this time 3-0.
A few positional changes were made now with Tom K ripping up the right wing Sam D moving to midfield with good energy and distribution and Joe slotting into central defence with great authority and our 4th debutante Michael coming on and scoring a lovely volleyed goal 4-0.
Whilst the new boys settled in very well it shouldn't be forgotten what a tremendous contribution our existing squad also made to this terrific start to the season with Harry making one fine diving save and keeping a clean sheet,Tom P strong in attacking the ball, Billy & James industrious & inventive in midfield with Ryan captain for the day & Dale providing the width and pace.
But pride of place above all these fine performances is Olly who was magnificent both in his defensive and attacking duties, his heading was terrific, energy levels phenomenal on such a hot day he was everywhere a brilliant performance from Olly well done.
Keep up the good start boy's, well done!
