The first home game of the Chiltern Junior Sevens season saw a confident performance from Hitchin, with some flowing football and disciplined defending.
Following last week’s surprise 3-2 defeat at Crawley Green, there was some pressure to win this League Cup Group F game against a well organised and good-natured Luton Leagrave.
Cameron thundered a shot against the bar early on, but the first goal eventually came when Jake swung one of his exceptional corners straight into the net.Hitchin had several more chances, limiting Leagrave to the odd counter attack, but after a period of pressure Christian turned in a cross from Jake for 2-0.
In the second half, Hitchin started slowly. Leagrave pushed on and saw a shot well saved by Luke, but the striker in orange followed up well to pull a goal back.Following a goal-line clearance by Alfie, Hitchin soon scored the best goal of the game as Ryan’s superb left-footed corner was headed in by Jake for 3-1.
Leagrave didn’t give up, with Luke making a good save and Paddy making a couple of important blocks.Late on, a driving run by Cameron into the box gave Christian the chance to tap in for 4-1.
Overall, a very good performance by all the boys: Luke, Paddy, Ollie, Alfie, Jake, Liam, Cameron, Ryan and Christian.
