Brickhill Wanderers FC U14's v Hitchin Town Youth U14's

Sunday, September 24 2006

Hitchin Town Youth were today drawn away at Brickhill Wanderers.  The game started a little slower than our last game but the boys were confident and strong, although sometimes made things a little difficult for themselves!

It took a while but the boys stamped their authority on the game, when Gareth Hedges stormed through the Brickhill defence to score a cracking goal to take us into the lead.

Our defensive play from Aaron Goldsmith, Josh Millet, Matt Morley and Dan Lambeth was formidable throughout the game yet again, keeping a clean sheet and denying any attempts at our goal.

The second half started much like the first although the boys had an air of confidence which seemed to grow and grow as the game went on.

It wasnt long before, after some awesome one touch football in the middle of the park from Ross Bates, Matt Gibson, Tom Burke and Kyle Ronalds a fantastic ball was fed forward for Jake Daniels (aka Peanut) to snatch his first goal of the game. The boys were beginning to show just how good they can play football, Mickey O'Hanlon came storming through the defence and around the home side goalkeeper to punch in his first goal of the game.

Celebrations for this goal were unfortunately short lived, after a 'freak' accident in the homeside goalmouth, saw one of the Brickhill Wanderers players, Alex, have a nasty fall after getting caught up in the net.  Initial signs were not good and it was decided that in fact the gamne should be halted and an ambulance was called.

Due to the nature of Alex' injury precautions had to be made.  We hope you are feeling better Alex, our thoughts are with you.

After a break of over 35 mins the game was resumed.  Hitchin Town Youth made a few changes and Ciaran Newton was bought on for his first game of this season.  After a fantastic ball from Mickey, Ciaran ran through the home defence and ended up one on one with the keeper.  Ciaran kept his composure and took his chance.  Well Done Ciaran! 0-4.

The game was all but over, but in the last few minutes Mickey took on the defence once again and slammed the ball into the back of the net for our final result of 0-5.

Well done to all of you. You knew what you had to do and you did it !  A good win taking us to the top of the league.
