Hitchin Town Firesharks v Luton United

Saturday, January 14 2006

A top of the table clash saw league leaders Firesharks take on 2nd placed Luton United but a strong performance again from Firesharks with a 4-0 win secured the points and opened  up the gap at the top of the table.

Having not played Luton before it was pleasing to see the boys play good football in the first half and again go in 3-0 up at half time.First goal was good slide rule passing between Joe M and Nick for Nick to right foot volley into the corner of the net.  Luton broke through and Ryan made a flying left handed save to push around the post for a corner.

Nick showed some deft skill in evading challenges and when the keeper parried the ball Courtney reacted fastest to poach a good goal 2-0.  For me the best worked goal was a strong tackle from Kayne on the right wing deep in our half from which he fed a long ball to Joe M, a great pass in saw Nick strike superbly to make it 3-0.

Luton tried to get back into it second half but to be fair if we could have converted some of our opportunities it really should have been a bigger win.  Late in the half a long clearance from Ryan saw the ball bounce deep in the United half, Joe M controlled it and walloped in the fourth - good goal again.

Dominic carried on from last week with a fab performance, strong in defence and tricky on attack, Andy was sound and nothing got past him, Kayne had one of his best games I felt, very tigerish a great defensive performance, Ethan was controlled and blocked everything, Joe F made some intelligent running and classy passing when we were on the attack, Ryan though hardly pressured was vocal and alert.  Nick was brilliant, superb team work plus individual skills and Joe M gave it all in midfield.

Good team performance from all, the lads now look forward to their semi final meeting next week with old foes Shefford Saints.
