On a cold but dry morning these young Under 12 Canaries soon had us warmed up with a hatful of goals from 5 different scorers!
We were given a warm welcome by Biggleswade who are the new boys to the Royston Crow League. The pitch was in great condition considering the recent weather although a bit on the small side and a little too heavy sanded in the goal mouth! which we may mention later.
We just had 11 available today and in Harry a very fine deputy goalkeeper who from Biggleswades very first attack brought off a brilliant left handed save from a swerving shot, a great confidence boost for the team and Harry who went onto be named man of the match, for some more good saves and excellent kicking from ground and hand.
This early shot also woke up the boys who went straight down the other end and through Ben who was back to his very best smashed home his first of the day.
However a lapse in concentration and a mistimed tackle allowed Biggleswade to break and score an equally good goal shooting across the desperate dive of Harry who in true goalkeeping tradition gave his defenders a mouthful!
We then moved up a gear with Ben hitting the woodwork & causing all sorts of problems up front with strong running support from Tom K on the right flank. The midfield having started slowly and not there usually strong unit then burst into life with two terrific left foot strikes from Mat H & Billy.
HT 3-1
After some tactical changes and some words of advice for our midfield we expected a better half but unfortunately we allowed the very useful Biggleswade midfield & attack to run through our midfield without challenge and plant a shot into the 'beach' of a goal mouth and the unusual bounce evaded Harry and Biggleswade were back in the game.
But again as has proved this month we responded terrifically with a screamer from Tom K after some good approach play from Tom P and Billy.
We now started to play and the midfield trio of James, Mat H, & Billy started to get it together slipping the ball through to Olly in a new role wide on the left and to Dale who was now making some good runs with Ben upfront.
Ben who ran Harry very close for man of the match hit the bar again but wasn't to be denied with another great finish for his second, then after a goalmouth scramble Dale lashed home the sixth which brought a big smile to both manager & son! The new very fine defensive trio of Sam, Tom P & Tom P! were not troubled again. The boys thoroughly deserved this win and ran out 6-2 winners and remain unbeaten in 5 games and for the whole of November.
Well done and keep it going boys!
