Hitchin Town (Luton) Youth were at home this weekend to 3rd in the League, Oakley Rangers. On a cold, windy, very wet and an extremely 'boggy' pitch, Hitchin Town dominated the game from the outset playing at their very best and with full concentration, restricting the away side any attempts at goal.
The game started off fast with both teams playing some outstanding football. Dean Hardware was first to every ball and was playing his 'socks' off. With neither side getting the vital breakthrough, spectators were treated to some quality football all over the pitch.
Jack Murphy, Kyle Ronald, Matt Gibson and Tom Burke were on top form and worked extremely hard for every ball, making it hard for Oakley to get past our solid defence and goal keeper Matt Russell, who was dominant in his area.
At half time the scoreline was even at 0-0 with everything to play for. Hitchin Town were still passing the ball around comfortably and found their way through the away side’s defence on a number of occasions only to be denied by the post and some outstanding saves from the away goalkeeper.
All boys were on top form with Andrew Robins having a fantastic game in defence alongside George Bottomley, Matthew Ahearn and Dean Hardware. Against the run of play Oakley Rangers managed to take the lead after a goal mouth scramble!!
Even though our boys were now behind they continued to work 100% for every single ball and did themselves extremely proud. A new strike partnership of Josh Corkhill and Michael Evans worked well but were unfortunate not to get the vital goal which would have given us a well deserved draw.
It was a pleasure to watch, in what was probably the best game we have played in and with every single boy in the team playing at their best we were very proud of you all. We were extremely unlucky not to get a win, but continue playing like you did boys, and we will be challenging for cup and league honours at the end of the season.
******* WELL DONE ALL OF YOU ******
