An extra hour in bed for these young Canaries, "were they dreaming of maintaining a 100% record in October?."
They arrived on a typical Autumn day raring to go against what was to prove to be one of our toughest opponents in St.Neots.
They had some very good players which were to prove a handful all morning but the lads more than matched them and their dreaming would come to fruition! Hitchin started in a much better vane this week dictating the play and looking very commanding at the back.
A lot of the play was confined to the midfield as each team tried to get the advantage, there were some strong challenges going in but the ref I think correctly tried to keep the game flowing. Slowly Hitchin got the better without scoring but only through strong defence and goalkeeping from our opponents. HT 0-0
The beginning of the second half was a carbon copy of the first with Hitchin having the edge in this tight affair. Ben who has had a terrific start to the season not only with his goals but with his work ethic has improved tremendously and having chased down what seemed an over hit pass from Olly to the goal line sent in a hard and low cross that the defender could only knock into his own net. 1-0 to the yellows!
St.Neots came back strong in this now end to end game and although the defence with all four playing great games it was Jack that stood out head & shoulders above the rest , strong in the challenge, excellent in the air and calm under pressure the perfect all round game.
But it was the Numero Uno who would win this game for Hitchin . Harry who was tidy all game with what ever came his way today and excellent kicking had to pull off a tremendous double save with only 10 secs left on the refs watch, disbelief for St.Neots amazement and pats on the back all round for Harry from delighted team mates.
So there it was ref blows for Full time 1-0 and the boys end October with a record of played 4 Won 4.
A first for this group of boys to win 4 on the trot and a much deserved fortnights rest now until the county cup.
Time to show in training that all you boys want to fully contribute and step up the work rate and willingness to support each other and who knows where this run of form can take you!
Well done to all 14 of you and Mike for "guiding" & Mark for coaching them through this period of success.
