St Joseph's Youth FC v Hitchin Town Youth FC

Sunday, November 11 2007

Hitchin U15's were this weekend drawn away to St Joe's. After our last meeting last season, this game was always going to be hotly contested. Both teams are flying high in the league and a win was almost vital for both sides.

The game started off fast with Hitchin Town strong all over the pitch. Unfortunately, both teams had players missing this weekend due to injury and school trips but you wouldn’t have noticed.

As usual, both teams were strong and physical. Hitchin Town passed the ball around the park with ease and it wasn’t long before Hitchin opened the score line with a fantastic shot from Liam Toomey. 0-1

The defence of Arron Goldsmith, Josh Millet, Matt Morley and Matt Aherne were on top form, making sure any attempts at goal were denied.

Midfield players Josh Cook, Kyle Ronald, Gareth Hedges and Jordan Armstrong were a formidable force winning every ball and passing well to the forwards. Liam Toomey smashed through the St Joes Defence once again just before half time bringing the score line to a comfortable 0-2.

The second half started much like the first with Hitchin Town taking control and being first to every ball. St Joes tried hard and had a few attempts at attacking the Hitchin Town defence but, as in the first half, these attempts were met with either the strong defence. Too be honest James Holland (keeper) was not put under too much pressure throughout the game.

Liam Toomey, up front, worked well with Bryn Reynolds and linked up well with the forwards of Michael Evans which bought about Liam's hatrick for the game. 0-3.

As the game drew to a close St Joe's push on hard and a couple of breath stopping attempts were either seen away by James or headed off the line by the defence. Liam took his last chance of the game to give us visitors a well deserved 0-4 lead.

St Joe's tried all over the park and played well throughout but were just out played in parts of the game. Just as the final whistle loomed they pushed forward and managed to scramble the ball across the line to bring the final score to 1-4.

This was a completely different game to the last game of last season. Although this was, yet again, a very physical game, both sides played with good sportsmanship and it was a fantastic game to watch with all players giving their best performances.

Congratulations to each and every player you were a credit to Hitchin Town Youth.....onwards and upwards :-)
