On a heavy pitch, against a much improved Stortford side, Hitchin proved both resilient and clinical as they continued their march of impressive victories.
Rivals will not be giving up just yet, but Hitchin stand six points clear at the half-way stage of the Royston Crow Division 2 season.
The long trip to Bishops Stortford and a three week gap since the last game seemed to take its toll on Hitchin, who looked a little leggy to start with. They were surprised by the home team's good organisation and bogged down by a horrible, clingy pitch that made good football difficult.
Stortford were arguably on top in the first period of the game, until a long clearance put Kameron Bethell through for Hitchin's opener.
Stand-in keeper Jake Holbrook was called on for a couple of saves, one of them a fine stop from a free-kick, before Kameron followed up well on a long range Alfie Dinsey effort to make it two nil to the young Canaries.

In the second half, Hitchin passed the ball better and Stortford tired as a result. A good move started by Jake Holbrook saw man-of-the-match Jake Alderson release a perfect pass for Kameron to complete his hat-trick.
The floodgates opened after that, with Alfie putting Liam Sweeney through for his first goal of the game. Liam then scored again and Sam Ward bagged a neat brace, before Alfie scored his long awaited first goal of the season.
Another good win, another big win.
