Herts County Cup - 1st Round
Hawks kicked off on a "Sunday" for the first time in an unfamiliar white kit this week, borrowed from Panshanger due to not being allowed to wear bibs as they had no numbers on, rules apparently, and an official ref.
The opening of the game saw Hawks on the attack immediately putting pressure on the Panshanger defence and goalie and it wasn’t long before a shot from Ben was too hot for the keeper to handle and it found the back of the net [1 - 0] Some great corners from Tyler saw the post hit twice in quick succession and it wasn’t long before Ben added to the tally with a shot that the keeper couldn’t keep out [2 – 0].
Two more goals were then added when their goalie unfortunately found Ben with his goal kicks and Ben finished clinically on both occasions [4 - 0]. Ollie was unlucky with a long range left foot strike that was well saved by the keeper and there was some great defending by Ryan and Ollie which meant Ali had very little to do in the first half. Half time [4 - 0].
Some changes at half time gave Ben and Tyler a well earned rest. The second half started pretty much the same with the Hawks putting pressure on Panshanger and Tom went close with a left foot strike. Panshanger tried to push forward but the Hawks defence and midfield stood firm. The manager continued to switch the team to give everyone a good run out. Tom was battling hard up front and was finally rewarded with the goal he deserved when a great run from Ben down the right wing saw him cross the ball for Tom to finish [5 – 0].
Another cool finish from Ben made it [6 – 0]. In the closing minutes Hawks piled on the pressure. A corner from Tyler saw Tom head just over the bar and then another saw Ben just head the ball wide. Some great running from Tyler and a fine shot made it [7 – 0]. Still the Hawks weren’t finished and Tyler got on the end of a Ben cross for [8 – 0] and then Tyler added his third [9 – 0] and that was how it finished. Panshanger never let their head drops and kept battling and got a good round of applause from the away supporters.
A great team performance from everyone and we all look forward to another Sunday out in Round 2.
