Albion U12 v Hitchin Town COVE U12

Sunday, October 14 2007

Sunday saw the return match against the friendly and sporting Stevenage based team Albion. Confidence was high and the result was never in any doubt.

From the opening whistle COVE were sending in a barrage of shots and could so easily have been three up within just the first four minutes of play. Deano and especially Adam ran the Albion defence ragged and eventually Adam opened the scoring on eight minutes, finding the back of the net after a fantastic solo run.

Just five minutes after the restart Adam scored again, but this time it was ruled out for off side??? The lead did extend though just before half time when after a great corner ball in, Alfie scored his first of the season, spot on! Throughout the period the defence of Jakob, Ben, Michael and Jack stopped any attack that Albion managed to muster, leaving Scott with virtually nothing to do. The midfield also caused the opposition nothing but problems too.

HT 0 - 2

The second half started with a score line that truly did not reflect the complete superiority Hitchin had over Albion, to be fair the hosts were very lucky indeed to be only two down. Two minutes in however, their luck was broken when a great cross in from Josh saw a poor Albion defender panic and put the ball into his own net.

The Canaries fourth came after a brilliant cross in from the right by debutant Dale. Deano shot and hit the post but Sam followed up with a rocket of a goal that probably left the poor Albion keeper glad not to have got in the way of it! With just six minutes left on the clock, another new player, Divonte, scored a corker after a great dribble round the hapless defence. Divonte almost doubled his tally too just before the final whistle when a mighty shot hit the upright after picking up the ball from a cross in from Jack who had just completed a sublime full pitch length, high speed run with the ball down the right.

An absolutely fantastic five goal victory summed up a marvellous display by all the lads. A very well deserved three points were their just reward and a move up the table and back into the top three where they belong.
