Super Hitchin Town COVE completely destroyed the visiting Buntingford Cougars on Sunday with a resounding nine goal victory!
The first goal came inside the first minute, after Adam saw the opening shot of the match pushed behind for an exceptionally early corner. The corner was quickly taken and Adam made sure second time round with a lightening reaction strike that left the Cougars keeper bewildered. One up already and the sure sign that a slaughter was about to take place!
Just four minutes later Adam switched from scorer to provider with a sweet cross in for Deano to hammer home the second. On seven minutes it was goal number two for Deano, this one courtesy of Josh sending the ball in from way out on the left flank. Goal number four saw Adam take his second and once again the ball was played in excellently by eventual Man of the Match Josh who was a pleasure to watch from the start. The almost mind reading ball play between him and Jacob down the left to serve the strikers was outstanding, and the two combined beautifully once again on twenty three minutes to set Deano up for his first half hatrick. Brilliant! Just two minutes later, and the half dozen was reached as Jack sent Dale on a run up the right wing, a lofted cross in followed and found the net...off of Williams back, but they all count!
An amazing first half then, which saw Buntingford very rarely in our half of the pitch leaving Jakob, Michael and Jack with very little to do in defence apart from try and keep warm while our number one Scott was left to freeze and get bored after touching the ball just twice!
HT 6 - 0
Fair play to the Cougars boys as they started the second period...six goals in the red but still smiling even when the seventh was notched up after a long distance low shot from Dale, which was going wide, got deflected in off one of their defenders. For the following ten minutes or so, Hitchin stepped off the gas slightly which actually allowed the visitors a couple of half chances of their own, all though, stopped by the Canaries solid defending and Scott was now getting cheered just for picking the ball up (by both sets of supporters) so he didn't think anybody had forgotten he was there!
Eventually the boys set the touch paper again, with forty seven minutes gone, Divonte received a good long pass from Michael, seemed to take an age to steady himself before firing a rocket of a shot into the top right corner from the edge of the box. Midfielders Alfie and Sam, among others were unlucky not to add to the goal count during the closing stages, the last of the day being from Dale who latched onto a ball in by William. Final whistle and nine goals without reply!
Absolutely astounding and convincing win then, every single aspect of COVEs game was perfect in every detail. As for Buntingford Cougars, for sportsmanship, friendliness and fair play...same applies. Note: with the exception of two hand balls, there was only one foul committed by each team and accidental in both cases. SUPERB.
