Hitchin Town Youth U14 v Symonds Green U14

Sunday, October 21 2007

Another wonderful day for football down at Purwell with the boys sporting a changed kit of red looking to extend their run of victories to three and push up the table.

The boys started the game a little out of sorts and their passing was not up to its normal standards and we seemed to join in with our opponents in releasing the ball as quickly as possible without much thought to the end product. We were back to the three pronged attack of Danny, Sam & Ben and much was expected but the service at first was not good.

As soon as the boys got settled and the passing game started from an impressive return to the team of Billy feeding the ball from defence to Ben and inside to Olly & Sam we started to put Symonds Green on the back foot and the chances and goals soon followed all in the latter part of the half. Ben (pen) Sam, Olly and a first of the season goal for Josh who had a good game wide on the left.  H/T  4-0.

The second half with some positional changes and the luxury this week of a fresh sub in Dale started as we left the first. More shots rained in on the keeper who had tried hard all game without much support from his team mates and Dale pounced to knock in his first of the season.

Symonds Green to their credit responded with a much improved determination and scored from a deserved penalty which seemed to lift their spirits. Between sloppy periods of play from "the reds" we some how conceded a second from a corner with at least six reds round the ball and not one opposition! Another change of personnel and a reminder that the game was not yet won and the boys were back to playing better football.

Sam was linking up nicely with Jack on the left and with one terrific strike Sam crashed a shot against the angle. Equally Dale was linking up with Ben and Billy now moved to the center of midfield was putting in some lovely through balls. The 5 goal margin was soon restored as Sam & Ben bagged one more each with the final score 7-2.

Captain James was looking imperious throughout and the rest of the team must look to him as the example for 100% commitment and keep focused for tougher times ahead.
Nevertheless another win and smiles all round are a common feature on these Sunday mornings, keep focused and keep up the good work boys.

Result: Hitchin Town Youth 7 Symonds Green 2

Scorers: Ben 2 , Sam 2 , Olly, Josh & Dale

Man of the Match: Dale.
