A drizzly afternoon saw COVE play at home and secure all three points with a fantastic four goal victory against unknown opposition in the form of 2nd placed Broadhall Tigers from Stevenage.
The visitors had an early shock within 30 seconds of the kick off, as Adam broke through their defence only to see his shot skim just wide of the post. Moments later, Deano picked up on a cross ball from Dale, forcing the keeper into a diving save to earn us the first corner of the match which Josh took as well as ever, Adams resulting header though, again saved.
The Tigers number one deserves credit as he kept a clean sheet and his team in the game throughout the first half while Hitchin piled on the pressure, raining shots goal bound. Our midfield of Dale, Sam, Alfie and Josh were superb and the defence of Jack, Michael in particular, Ben and Jakob seemed unbreachable, hence our keeper Scott was only called into action just once during the entire first period. Despite all this however, quite unbelievably at half time the match was still goalless.

A few half time changes and suddenly the Tigers were turned into Pussycats by the Boys form COVE as the goals came thick and fast! Just three minute in, Adam set up Divonte who nearly ripped the net with his first shot of the game, but the linesman’s flag was raised for the off-side. On forty minutes though, Deano took an excellent free kick from just inside their half allowing Josh to open the scoring with a scorcher! Just four minutes later, it was number two, as Divonte had his shot parried by the overworked Broadhall keeper, Adam fired the loose ball back on target, again the keeper pushed clear but the ball fell for William who found the bottom right hand corner of the net from close in.
After the second goal, Broadhall seemed to all but collapse in midfield and defence, the lead extended ten minutes from time as their keeper made his only mistake of the game with a poor goal kick which landed straight at Divontes feet. After breezing past the only defender left that seemed to still have the energy or will to try and stop him, Divonte wrong footed the keeper and casually swept the ball over the line. The final goal came after Jack, who had switched to midfield from defence, saw his effort saved and Deano slam it home with a great follow up.
Another brilliant team effort by a side that just seem to get better every time they step onto a pitch. The communication, the encouragement for one another and simply the overall performance gel together brilliantly. Keep it up boys!
